Ask what supports the claim

Evidence: what supports this claim?

Ask to see the support for the treatment, then ask what that support can tell you.

Evidence
The information offered to support a treatment claim.

Keep the question small

  • Does this source discuss the proposed product?
  • Does it discuss the same problem?
  • What result did it look for?
  • What remains unknown?
  • Can the clinician (the health professional evaluating your problem) explain how it applies here?

A report is another kind of evidence

An adverse event means an unwanted experience reported during medicine use.

A report by itself cannot establish the medicine as the cause of a problem. The FDA says the number of reports cannot establish how often the problem occurs.

A total alone does not tell you how many people had a problem out of everyone who used the medicine.
